September SICP Advanced Training Courses
Coming Up Next at VIU
After a short summer break, the Advanced Training Program will start again in September with a busy schedule in both Italy and China, including two training programs in Italy, events at the Shanghai Expo 2010, at the Shanghai Academy of Environmental Sciences and in Tianjin.
VIU will also host the second session of the course for the black sea Region, organised in cooperation with the REC-Regional Environmental Center.

The First Solar Thermal Plant Working 24/7
ENEL, the main electric energy company in Italy, has recently inaugurated a new solar thermal plant in Riolo Gargallo, Sicily, which is able to function 24 hours, will save 2,100 tonnes of oil equivalent and reduce 2,350 tons of CO2 emissions in addition to the current plant performance.

New European Directive on Energy Performance in Buildings.
A new European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) came into force on July 9, 2010, amending the previous one, which dates back to 2002. The main aim of the new Directive is to strengthen the energy performance requirements, taking into account climatic and local conditions, as well as indoor climate environment and cost-effectiveness.
