Call for papers: The Future of Venice and its Lagoon in the Context of Global Change
The VIU is coorganizer, together with the UNESCO Office in Venice, of the conference "The Future of Venice and its Lagoon in the Context of Global Change" (November 13-15 in San Servolo, Venice). The call for papers is open until August 15.

VIU_NDRC first Advanced Training on GHG Emission Inventory Compilation
New Topic for the National Development and Reform Commission of China: ''Green House Gas Emission Inventory Compilation'', organized by the VIU and held in Italy from July 10 to 24. Detailed knowledge of the GHGs emissions in the different countries worldwide is fundamental both in certifying the reductions already achieved and in planning future strategies.

China to Exempt Green Vehicles from Taxation
The Chinese State Council is working on a new regulation concerning taxation of transports that exempts electric cars, fuel-cell vehicles and hybrid vehicles from taxation. The regulation should take effect on January 1, 2012.

Dezhou: the Chinese Solar Valley
China is the country that is pushing towards renewable energy more than any other. A clear example is Dezhou, the solar valley of China. Dezhou is a city of about 5.5 million inhabitants and is located in the northeastern province of Shandong where the sun always shines. Solar power is used everywhere, from the street lights to tourist carts, and every roof is covered by solar heaters.

A Carbon Free Wine
The Salcheto winery developed a project for producing its Sangiovese wine in a green building, creating the first Italian winery off-the-grid. In cooperation with the Unviersity of Siena, they started off evaluating the CO2 emissions from the raw material, passing through the agricultural production, wine processing and finally, bottling.

Recycling Rates of Metals: A Status Report - UNEP
The recent report by UNEP's International Resource Panel draws a picture on the worldwide situation of metals are a finite resource for which emerging economies and developed countries are showing a substantial increase in demand. The study finds that recycling rates of metals are in many cases far lower than their potential for reuse.
