Lima Climate Change Conference - December 2014
The 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol took place from 1 to 12 December and was hosted by the Government of Peru, in Lima, Peru. Representatives of nearly 200 countries participated in the talks, with the aim to build a favorable starting point towards a successful summit at the next COP, the number 21, to be held in Paris in December 2015

The European Environment Agency (EEA) recently released its "Costs of air pollution from European industrial facilities – an updated assessment" report, which evaluates a number of harmful impacts caused by air pollution to the health of the European population.

The report "L'Italia del Riciclo", focusing on the state of the recycling market in Italy, was recently published by Fondazione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile (the Sustainable Development Foundation) and by FISE Unire (the Italian association of companies working in the waste collection and recycling sectors).

Deep Seas as Major Sink for Microplastic Debris
It is well known that large quantities of plastic waste ends up into seas and oceans, but scientists have so far been able to account only for a fraction of the quantity that is believed to be in the oceans worldwide. Now a new study published on the Royal Society Open Science Journal seems to have found the answer.

World Soil Day 2014
December 5th celebrated the World Soil Day, with the aim to highlight the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human wellbeing. Moreover, the 2014 World Soil Day also saw the launch of the International Year of Soils, that will be celebrated in 2015 with events taking place in Santiago, Bangkok and New York.
