Company profile

Italcementi Group is the world's fifth largest cement producer. The Parent Company, Italcementi S.p.A., is one of Italy's 10 largest industrial companies and is listed on the Italian Stock Exchange.
As a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Italcementi Group has signed the Cement Sustainability Initiative's Agenda for Action, the first formal commitment that binds a number of world cement industry leaders. Moreover, Italcementi has been included in "The Sustainability Yearbook 2011", the most comprehensive publication on corporate sustainability released yearly by SAM (Sustainable Asset Management), and has adhered to the UN Global Compact, a strategic initiative promoted by the United Nations to align companies operations and plans with universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and ethics.

As a confirmation that research and innovation are key values for the Group, an important step is being made with the building of i.lab, the new pole around which the Group research activities on construction will rotate. Designed by US architect Richard Meier, the area of the new Research and Innovation Center of Italcementi Group is approximately 23,000 m2 in total. New photocatalytic cements combined with the use of solar panels, photovoltaic panels as well as geothermal energy will ensure the building’s compatibility with the principles of Sustainable Architecture.
The center is set in the Kilometro Rosso Science and Technology Park – strategically located on the outskirts of Bergamo – which is simultaneously home to multidisciplinary research activities undertaken by private and public establishments.
