China submits its carbon pledges and INDCs list grows longer

indc-light-tree-wordsOn June 30, China submitted its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) to the UNFCCC in the lead-up to the Paris COP21 in December 2015.

Submitted INDCs then totaled 44 contributions, including the ones from the European Union, the United States and Russia, the commitments submitted covering roughly 56 percent of the global emissions.

The long-announced INDC from China came right after a meeting with EU leaders, in which the two parties signed a joint statement on climate change. On the occasion, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to reach an ambitious and legally binding agreement at the Paris conference.

Experts agree that the INDC from China, the world's largest emitter, will create momentum for climate pledges ahead of the Paris summit.

A constantly updated summary of INDC submissions is available here.
