Less CO2 and more Efficiency in the Cities, a New EU Project
08 April 2013

energyCityReducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in cities across Central Europe is the aim of the EU project named EnergyCity.

The project is currently gathering aerial thermography data of 7 cities in Central Europe: Budapest (Hungary), Prague (Czech Republic), Munich and Ludwigsburg (Germany), Bologna and Treviso (Italy), and Velenje (Slovenia). After this mapping phase an online Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) will be created to visualize and compare the cost-effectiveness and potential of different renewable energy solutions in the cities involved in the project.

In order to improve the energy efficiency of the cities, the project also supports several campaigns and pilot projects to raise the awareness of the citizens about the efficiency concept and the knowledge of efficiency of their houses. The project is developed through a series of pilot trainings for carbon mapping, the implementation of awareness raising campaigns and the promotion of poverty reduction plans.
Many suggestions and ideas are also collected on the website to show how it is concretely possible to decrease the loss of energy and to save money.
