20 June 2016

MEPsoilThe delegation from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the P.R. of China participating in the Sino-Italian Cooperation Program 2016 will arrive in Venice on June 26.

The 20 participants are selected from departments of the Chinese Ministry of Environment as well as from Environmental Protection Bureaus of different provinces of China such as Jiangsu, Sichuan, Hunan, Guizhou. They will attend a15-day training on Soil Pollution Prevention and Control with most of activities in Venice, and a closing2-day in Rome to meet experts from the Italian Ministry of Environment (IMELS) and of other national institutions dealing with soil management.

In the framework of the 12-year Sino-Italian Advanced Training Program on SustainableDevelopment, this is the first time that a whole 15-day training is entirely devoted to the issue of soil pollution. This is because the awareness of the importance of a healthy soil has grown over the years since all over the world nationaland local institutions have to deal with widely polluted areas and to face heavy costs for their cleanup and redevelopment. In this concern, the VIU Advanced Training will introduce both the legal aspects linked to soil protection and reclamation as well as the best technologies for the different pollution sources, taking into account both standard and innovative methods.

The VIU Advanced Training will also feature a number of site visits so that the Chinese participants can personally see companies that treat polluted soils, in addition to a highly advanced landfill site and former polluted sites now reclaimed and again in use.
