18 March 2014

h2otelchallengeThe United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently launched “H2Otel Challenge”, a program addressed to the hospitality industry.

The newly launched program follows the excellent results obtained by WaterSense, an initiative that has been supporting US consumers to use less water by means of more water-efficient labeled products and saving tips. Thanks to WaterSense, nearly 2 billion m3 of water have been saved since 2006; with the new H2Otel Challenge initiative EPA is now challenging hotels to take a pledge to ACT: Assess water use and savings opportunities, Change products or processes to incorporate Best Management Practices (BMPs) and Track their water–saving progress and achievements. By implementing these actions, hotels will be able to save this important resource and, at the same time, gain a competitive advantage with regards to green lodgings demand and guarantee the best service to their guests.

EPA offers a series of tools to help hotels accept the challenge such as a comprehensive guide to BMPs, available on the institution’s website, and webinars with firsthand experience from professional already using water more efficiently.
