19th Congress of the Italian Oceanology and Limnology Association

Venice International University, September 22-25, 2009 The 19th congress of the Italian Oceanology and Limnology Association (A.I.O.L.) will take place on the island of San Servolo, Venice, from September 22 to 25. The event will be organised by the Institute of Marine Science of the Italian National Research Council in cooperation with Venice International University.

The congress is an opportunity for the Italian scientific community to meet and discuss the main themes and advances of the marine and freshwater science.
The meeting program will include speeches on up-to-date topics from several well known scientists, among which M. Canals, J. Ausubel, D. Livingstone, C. de Vargas and E. Fahrbach.

Moreover, a roundtable will be organised on September 24 on the topic “Water, Economy and Society”. The discussion will highlight the problems of water scarcity and water allocation in developing countries, where transboundary effects are already arising in conjunction with the increasing use of water for hydroelectric energy production and agricultural uses.
