Duke-VIU International Summer Research Workshop 2009
06 August 2009
July 5-10 The second edition of the Duke-VIU International Summer Research Workshop was held at Duke University, in Durham North Carolina, July 5-10.
Building on more than 10 years of international teaching cooperation during which Duke and other VIU consortium members have been offering students and faculty a unique academic experience in a global setting, this workshop series is being held annually for two to four years, alternately in Venice and in Durham, NC. The series taps the partner institutions’ complementary research foci: global value chain approach and the VIU empirical research on Green Industry and Italian industrial districts in the context of emerging challenges and opportunities related to international competitiveness.

This year 21 participants and 8 faculty members from over 10 countries were involved in presentations, discussions and group works, focused on global value chain and its economic, social and environmental upgrading. Having such a varied international participation contributes to the development of additional links with key research institutions elsewhere in Europe, Asia and Africa, thus enriching the Duke and VIU global research agenda and offering interested institutions an important opportunity to engage in a global initiative with world-class research partners."
