European Week for Waste Reduction
10 November 2009
November 21-29, 2009 The first European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) will be celebrated from November 21 to 29, 2009. The event will be held in the framework of the environmental LIFE+ Programme of the European Commission.

The EWWR aims at raising awareness among stakeholders about the need to reduce waste production, highlighting the impact of our consumption on the environment and on climate change, and to make known the policies of the EU and Member States on waste reduction, including the recent revision of the Waste Framework Directive.

The objective is to involve, across Europe, all the private and public entities which play an active part in waste prevention. The whole week will be dedicated to the concept of waste prevention through awareness-raising actions for a variety of subjects, including municipalities, businesses, associations, administrations, schools.
In 2009 the EWWR will take place at national level in Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Sweden and Andorra, and at regional level in Belgium (Brussels Capital Region, Flemish Region, Walloon Region), many parts of Spain (Catalonia, Asturias, Gipuzkoa, Balearic Islands, Navarra, Valencia) and many parts of the UK (Greater London, Scotland, Wales, the East of England region, the City of Belfast).
