The Impact of a 4°C Global Temperature Rise
27 October 2009
New Study by British Meteorological Institute The British Meteorological Institute released on October 22, 2009 an interactive map in which the effects of a 4 °C rise of the planet’s temperature are described, giving visual representation of the risks lying ahead if no action is taken to combat climate change. By clicking on each highlighted area in the map you can get information about the risks deriving from global warming which will most probably affect it. The result is an appalling forecast.
The most important effects would be the rise of the ocean’s level, the increase of fires and droughts events, the disappearance of precious ecosystems and the crisis of agriculture, all events that could cause the mass migration of the affected populations.
The temperature rise is expected to have different effects in the various regions, also because the temperature and the sea level would not increase uniformly across the world.

All continents are at risk. It is therefore necessary for all countries to act together and find concrete solutions. Hopefully at the Copenhagen meeting which will be held next December, decisions will be taken in order to limit the temperature rise and keep it within 2 °C.
The map presented by the UK Government aims at raising awareness of the dangers resulting from letting our planet’s temperature rise in an uncontrolled way and urge decision-makers to take action."
