Confucius Institute Now in Venice
29 September 2009
On September 22, 2009, the local Confucius Institute was inaugurated in Venice.

Confucius Institute is a non-profit public institute already present in more than 100 countries, with headquarters in Beijing under the aegis of the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban).
The aim of the Institute is to promote Chinese language and culture, and local Chinese teaching internationally, by supporting the traditional institutions operating in the field of Chinese studies through courses, conferences, meetings, publications and exhibitions.

Venice seems to be the ideal city for such an institution, considering its long tradition in Asian studies and cooperation with China. The creation of a local Institute in Venice was possible thanks to the cooperation agreement signed by Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Capital Normal University of Beijing and Hanban last year."
