Funds for Renewable Energies: China and Usa Good Example!
09 April 2010
Who's Winning the Clean Energy Race? Report Last February Steven Chou, Secretary of the USA Energy Department, stated that the Government is ready to invest 28.4 million dollars on projects that aim to promote energy renewable sources such as biomass, wind and sun. This is not only a good investment but also a precious opportunity to create new "green" jobs and to foster emission reduction and energy efficiency, thus representing an important commitment on the way to Sustainable Development.
Moreover, a big portion of this amount (21.7 millions) will be devoted to research and to measures aimed at reducing subsidies for coal, oil and gas use. The investment programme should develop over the next 10 years.

On the other side of the Pacific China is actually the major investor: 34.6 million dollars were spent on green energies in 2009. The Pew Charities Trust just published a report about this issue titled "Who's Winning the Clean Energy Race? Growth, Competition and Opportunity in the World's Largest Economies". This study shows how China's policy rapidly changed overturning the country priorities. Thanks to funds availability, the energy market in China has completely changed. As it can be read in the report, the installed power has been growing more by than the 70% in the last years. It is very interesting, for instance, to see the amount of green investments on the GDP: in China it is now 0.39%, while in the USA it is only 0.11%.
