Life+ an Opportunity for the Environment!
11 August 2010
Life+ is a European Program and an important tool for project financing on environmental issues.
Life+ has three main components: 1) Nature and Biodiversity which supports projects contributing to the EU's goal of halting the loss of biodiversity; 2) Environment Policy and Governance which supports projects improving the implementation of EU environmental legislation, which help to build the environmental policy knowledge base, and which develop environmental information sources through monitoring; 3) Information and Communication which supports the spread of information on environmental issues and awareness campaigns.

The results of the 2009 Life+ call were announced this month.
Italy won first place for the overall number of selected projects: 56 projects were selected for a value of 94.2 million of euro, almost 40% of the total funding amount.
In the Nature and Biodiversity component 40 out of the 84 projects funded are Italian. They are mainly focused on waste management and waste reduction, climate change, air quality, and emissions reduction.
15 projects were financed in the Environment Policy and Governance framework and are focused on forestry management, species conservation and farm management.
In the Information and Communication framework the project Fish Scale has been approved for a value of 1 million euro assigned to the Aquarium of Genoa. The project aims to change the attitudes of consumers by increasing their awareness on the importance of by-catch species.
