Coming Up Next at VIU After a short summer break, the Advanced Training Program will start again in September with a busy schedule in both Italy and China.

The opening session of the 2010 training programs, in collaboration with the Tianjin Science and Technology Committee (TSTC), will be held in Tianjin on September 2-3. The first session in Italy will follow from September 11 to 25. The course is on Innovation of Environmental Technology and Management, and amongst the topics to be focused on will be emission trading and low carbon initiatives such as energy efficiency and eco-building, environmental problems of coastal cities and monitoring air pollution.

A delegation from the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau (BMEPB) will attend a training program on Pollution Source Management – Permit and Emission Trade in Italy from September 4 to 18. The drafted agenda of this course is structured so as to propose a theoretical and practical support on Pollution Source Management with particular focus on Emission Trading Schemes to the 15 participants.

A training course on Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment will be held in Shanghai, in collaboration with the Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau from September 16 to September 18. The first two days of the training will be hosted at the Shanghai Science Academy of Environmental Science, whereas the closing event will be held at the Italian pavilion, in the Expo, on the morning of the 18th of September.

The program at the Shanghai Expo will continue with an international workshop organized by the Italian Ministry for the Environment Land and Sea on the seven years of joint capacity building programs, which will be held at the Italian pavilion in the afternoon of the 18th of September. The event will involve representatives of the institutions of the Sino Italian Advanced Training Program.

At the end of September, VIU will also host a delegation from the Regional Environmental Center (REC). After the successful opening session in Istanbul, participants from Georgia, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine will come to Italy to attend the final session of the course on “Sustainable Public Policies and Business Practices for Black Sea Countries”."
