A Chance to Let New Green Ideas Be Known
26 February 2010
Greener Gadgets Design Competition Go Mechanical Charger gained the highest score by web surfers in the Greener Gadgets Design Competition that closed yesterday in New York. Indian Elephant firm designed this simple and clever charger for mobile phone batteries, which uses human body heat. It is an easy idea that may prove very useful in countries, such as India, where electricity is not always available, and could generally help lowering electricity consumption.
This gadget might also change the way people connect: people always on the move, such as drivers, cargo workers or constant travellers, can have their phone batteries always fully charged thus suffering no gaps in communication.

This and many other ideas (such as the “InCharge Battery Station”, “Smart Grid Home Controller” and “Empower”) have been competing in the Greener Gadgets Design Competition.
This interesting event gives small firms and unknown researchers the chance to have their ideas known by presenting a prototype of their green gadget to compete in the contest. During the competition all projects can be looked at in the website and voted by any surfer. Moreover, on the website visitors can find a “Green Electronics Guide” about the recycling of electronic devices with many useful links to policies, programmes and companies that have been including environment and sustainability priorities in their process and products."
