International Workshop on "Climate Change and Social Adaptation"
02 February 2010
Venice, Italy. 18-19 Feb 2010

Climate change will likely occur notwithstanding the efforts of all countries in trying to stabilize their GHG emissions. Some measures to adapt to the new climatic conditions will therefore be necessary.

With the aim of increasing the understanding of factors, barriers or drivers conditioning the social and behavioural dimension of adaptation to climate change, the International Governance for Climate Change (ICCG), together with Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) and the Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change (CMCC) organises the International Workshop on ‘‘Climate Change and Social Adaptation’’ which will be held in Venice, at Palazzo Querini Stampalia, on February 18-19, 2010.

The workshop will address the topic through the presentation and discussion of specific research papers. Three main focuses will be considered:
• The social and behavioural dimension as key factors to adapt to climate change,
• The flexibility of social systems in adapting to climate (including governments, Ngos, the private sector, communities, and individuals),
• The learning capacity as a means to overcome behavioural and social constraints to changing technologies (development and adoption of new technologies).
