Black Cabs Go Green!
22 March 2010
The traditional London black cabs are to become hydrogen cars running on the latest hydrogen fuel cell technology.
The idea of the deputy mayor of London is to have the hydrogen cabs ready by 2012 for the Olympic Games. He announced that 6 hydrogen filling stations and 20 taxis will be in operation by then. In 2014, the hydrogen cabs will be adopted by other cities throughout the UK.

Hydrogen cars, as electric vehicles, produce no emissions, but have the advantage of taking only few minutes to fill up from empty.
Hydrogen cabs are part of a project called Zero Emission London Taxi Commercialisation, which is carried out by Lotus Engineering in the framework of a sustainable mobility programme.
The UK Government Technology Strategy Board and some private stakeholders, such as Intelligent Energy and TRW Conekt, are in fact putting a total amount of 52 million pounds in a series of programmes concerning sustainable mobility and low emissions vehicles."
