Donghai Bridge, Shanghai, P.R.China China started building its first off-shore wind farm, close to the Donghai Bridge in Shanghai. This site has been chosen for its shallow water, about 10 meters deep.
The wind farm will consist of 34 turbines generating up to102.000 kW of power.
The first two turbines have already been completed and connected to the grid. The remaining 32 are planned to be completed and connected by June 2010.

The project is being carried out by the joint venture established by China Datang Corporation, Shanghai Green Environmental Protection Energy Engineering Co., Ltd., CGN Energy Development Co., Ltd. and China Power International Renewable Energy (Shanghai) Holding Ltd, which won the call for tenders of the Shanghai Municipal Development & Reform Commission. The expected final cost of the project is around 350 million dollars.

The Donghai Bridge wind farm is part of a bigger project that will be developing in Shanghai and it is the pilot project for off-shore wind energy for the whole country.
China has the biggest amount of wind resources in the world (about 3.22 million MW) and aims to strongly develop them also with off-shore plants that could assure 750, 000 MW of power.
