The First Trial for Bio-Sourced SIM Cards
18 March 2010
The prototype of a bio-sourced SIM card has been launched by Gemalto, the world leading company in the field of digital security, in collaboration with SFR, the leading French mobile phones operator with over 20 million subscribers.

The bio-sourced SIM card is made of a new renewable material derived from corn, sugarcane or potato starch. This material is easily recyclable and compostable through small scale industrial units and thus reduces the global ecological footprint of the SIM-card production process. Moreover, the packaging is made of recycled paper and plant-based inks.

If this eco-friendly product, which would be a really innovative commitment, will manage to go beyond the trial step, it might play a very significant role in reducing the overall environmental impact of many customers using shot-run SIM cards worldwide."
