June 15 is a special day for wind energy, as it is the Global Wind Day, when thousands of people all over the world celebrate the enormous benefits coming from aeolian energy. GWD is an awareness campaign to promote wind energy worldwide as an effective alternative to fossil fuel energy. This event is organised for the second year by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), that cooperate together with many national wind energy associations spread all over the world to realise all related events. The first edition in 2009 was a great success and more than 300 events were organized in the 35 countries which took part in it. In the program of the 2010 edition thousands of events are scheduled, such as wind farm open days, conferences, exhibitions, workshops, sporting contests, regattas, information days and theatre shows.
