The Challenge of Sustainable Mobility: Agreement Signed Between Italy and China
15 October 2010
As the world seeks solutions to high polluting and increasingly expensive fossil fuel transportation, electric vehicles could offer a viable solution.
The Chinese government is actively promoting the development of electric vehicles, through the provision of funding and favourable policies, in order to limit the rise in emissions brought about by the boom in car sales.
Among these initiatives, in 2009, the government launched a project that aims to put a thousand electric cars in 10 Chinese cities per year.
On the 7th of October 2010 in Rome, the Italian Environment Minister, Stefania Prestigiacomo, and the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, Wan Gang, signed an agreement to intensify the partnership between the two countries on environmental issues. In particular, Italy will also collaborate actively within the program on electric vehicles launched in China in 2009.
This program aims to increase the presence and the available technology in a strategic sector for the sustainable future, especially in urban areas.
