Coming Up Next at VIU In October, as in September, the Advanced Training Program looks forward to a very busy schedule both in Italy and in China.

The second and last session of the 2010 training program between Venice International University (VIU) and the Tianjin Science and Technology Committee (TSTC) will be held in Italy from October 2 to 16.
The course, as its predecessor, will focus on Innovation of Environmental Technology and Management. Air pollution, energy efficiency, green industry and sustainable agriculture are among the topics to be addressed.

From October 6 to 21, a delegation composed of 25 participants selected by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China (MEP) will be in Italy to attend a training program on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs). This is the second course on the theme organized this year with MEP. The course agenda features in-depth studies on chemical and waste-related agreements as well as those dealing with biodiversity. A one-day visit will be organized to the WWF Natural Reserve in Valle Averto.

After the VIU mission in September to the Shanghai Expo 2010, another visit to China is planned in October. On this occasion a training course on Sustainable Development will be held from October 18 to 22, in Beijing, in collaboration with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST). Moreover, a Symposium will be held in Tianjin on the 19th of October as follow up of the 2010 courses with the Tianjin Science and Technology Committee and to discuss the session to be organized next year.
The training in Beijing with CASS is intended as an introductory session of the academic year program to introduce and compare Chinese and Italian approaches to the following issues: energy efficiency, eco-building, green economy and climate change. The 160 participants attending the Beijing session will visit Italy over the next 12 months, divided in 4 training courses on specific topics, i.e. energy efficiency and renewables, ecobuilding and sustainable urban development, water pollution and waste management.

The training with MOST which commenced in Beijing, will continue in Italy from October 23 to November 6. The drafted agenda of this training course on Capacity Building on Sustainable Development will offer the 31 participants several interesting site visits to treatment plants, besides discussion on policy-making and legal aspects of water and pollution management. Moreover, lessons on sustainable transportation and sustainable agriculture will also be presented."
