CMCC New Supercomputing Center
28 January 2009
On January 30, 2009, the Euromediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) will inaugurate its new supercomputing center, which will be located in the University of Salento and will be one of the most important structures in Europe for the realization of scenarios on the effects of climate change.
The supercomputer will be presented on the occasion of the event "Climate Science in the Mediterranean Area" that will take place in Lecce, on January 31, with a congress entitled "The Climate to Come. Scientific Analysis and Political Choices".
The new supercomputer will have an impressive calculation power, like that of 20.000 personal computers working simultaneously. The machine is expected to process big quantities of environmental data in order to produce an affordable forecast on how will be the climate in the future and which could be the effects on economy, sea level, agriculture and ecosystems."
