The European Water Framework Directive (2000/60/CE) represents a central piece of legislation for water protection and management in European Countries.
The Directive aims to coordinate all measures connected with water and water environments in order to guarantee success and integration to financed actions.
Deterioration halting, reaching of good ecological and chemical status in all water bodies and reduce/elimination of emission for priority substances and hazardous substances are the most important objectives of the Water Framework Directive.
The River basin Management Plan is the tool for implement the Water Framework Directive.
Ecological status and chemical status of water bodies must be considered to address water quality objectives under the Water Framework Direcive.
At European level River basin District have been identified and River Basin management Plans have been prepared by the end of 2009 by most part of European countries.
Water quality monitoring is a very important requirement for implementation of Water Framework Directive.
A common strategy is indicated and recommended to European Member States for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive.
