PlusEnergy House

PlusEnergy_house.phpWhen we think of our ecological footprint and how to decrease it, it is natural for us to think of our lifestyle; what we eat, how much water we use, how long we keep our electronic devices switched-on, how many times we fly etc. Furthermore, we usually consider some areas as set, as constants in our footprint count, for example the structure of our home. In fact, we often think of ways to improve what we have inside the building, such as, improving the heating system or the isolation layers in order to cut our impact on the environment, but often forget about the building itself, we do not think about the possibility to consider our home as a positive addendum in our footprint count. The case of Fasanenstrasse 87, in Berlin, can totally overturn this approach. This building is part of the project called PlusEnergy House and will be financed by the German State with approximately 2.5/3 million euro. The positive piece of news is that this kind of house produces more energy than its owners actually need, and considering the consumptions of a common family, the amount produced is twice its actual needs. This is possible thanks to attention placed on the used materials which are some of the best available technologies and are also totally recyclable. Now, the first house is ready, at Fasanenstrasse 87, and a family will test it... so what to do with the surplus of energy? Charge the electric car of course!
