3rd International Conference on Degrowth
28 August 2012

degrowthVenice is the city chosen to host the third edition of the International Conference on Degrowth, Ecological Sustainability and Social Equity, which will take place from September 19th to 23rd. As the previous editions, held in Paris in 2008 and Barcelona in 2010, the conference will be characterized by and promote the interaction and involvement of scientists, activists and local stakeholders.

At first sight the word degrowth can be linked to the idea of growth stopping thus acquiring a negative meaning. This is not the case, since degrowth would better mean a change in the development patterns. In accordance with the idea of sustainable development, in fact, degrowth can be better described as a transition to new models of development where sustainability and equity are the milestones in resource management, goods production and social aspects.

The conference aims at discussing degrowth in practical terms, analyzing development models, local policies and role of stakeholders as main actors of the process.
