A Stop on the Incandescent Light Bulbs in China
01 April 2011
LampadinaCFLalimentatintegrThe Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) is planning the replacement of incandescent light bulbs with the energy-efficient bulbs, already widely used in USA and Europe.

Incandescent light bulbs are not efficient, as only 30% of the energy produces light and the remaining 70% is wasted on heat. On the contrary, energy-efficient bulbs turn 80% of energy into electricity, with a large abatement of CO2 emissions.

The timetable of this replacement is under discussion, but it would seem that the 100W incandescent light bulb production will cease by 2015, and the replacement of all these bulbs (75W and less) will be completed by 2018.

In fact, the changeover must also take into consideration the high cost of the energy-efficient bulbs. They cost 10 times more than the old ones and many families cannot afford this cost. Therefore the plan should also consider a governmental subsidy for poorer families.

Moreover, the companies who make the light bulbs also need time to reconvert their production.
