Organic Food, a Transboundary Network: The Loa
22 April 2011
biologicoAt last there is a common approach on the certification of organic food. Eight international associations agreed on a common protocol: the Leading Organic Alliance (Loa). The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Nuremberg on February, 16, 2011 during the Biofach.

The Loa is actually a network of the following associations: Icea (Italy), Bio Austria (Austria), Bioforum (The Nederlands), Debio (Norway), Krav (Sweden), Naturland (Germany), Soil Association (UK) and Caae (Spain), who is the current coordinator. It should also be noted that it is not a closed group, since all associations holding the requirements to sign the MoU can join in the Alliance.

This is a great step forward on the organic food certification. Finally there are common rules and a shared vision on organic agriculture that for its nature is a transboundary issue. The hope now is that the Loa can grow including new partners from all over the world.
