Wind Power Energy in Spain: the Main Source of Electricity in March
09 May 2011

logo_bandera_150In March 2011, 21% of the energy demand in Spain was provided by wind energy.
For the first time ever, wind power energy has exceeded the rest of the energy technologies.
In fact, in March 2010 the energy demand provided by wind power was 5% less than this year.
Moreover, 42.2% of the total electricity demand in March was covered by the different renewable energies and 57.9% of the electricity was generated with zero-CO2 emission technologies.

In March 2011, the electrical energy demand grew by 0.1% compared to the same month last year, reaching 22.799 GWh, and during the first quarter of 2011 the demand grew by 1.1% (67,774 GWh). This proves that renewable energy technologies can succeed without compromising the consumption growth.
