Dezhou: the Chinese Solar valley |
19 July 2011 |
China is usually branded as the biggest emitter of GHG in the world since 70% of its energy comes from coal. However, China is the country that is pushing towards renewable energy more than any other. A clear example is Dezhou, the solar valley of China. Dezhou is a city of about 5.5 million inhabitants and is located in the northeastern province of Shandong where the sun always shines. In 2010, 3 million solar panels were produced in Dezhou generating an amount of energy equivalent to 540,000 tons of coal, and saving a total amount of 1.35 tons of CO2.
