Eco-tubs to Save Food at Restaurant – Rimini Province Initiative
24 August 2012

rigustamiA new agreement among Province, USSL (local unity in charge of health care) and restoration and accommodation services was signed in Rimini (Emilia Romagna, Italy) to realize a project called "eco-tub circuit" (Circuito Eco-vaschette).

The idea is based upon the well known "doggy-bag" concept, but the novelty brought forth by the project is represented by the tub itself. Unlike those commonly used, in this case the tub is recyclable and produced according to organic standards. Besides, the real step to reach the sustainability of this project was the concrete commitment and the common understanding of both producers and consumers.

This best practice, in fact, brings benefits to the restoration and accommodation services by producing less waste, and it is also gives a gain for the consumers, who can save such a precious resource as food.

This is not a unique case in Italy, but it is the biggest of these good initiatives that started over the last few years in Trento and Bolzano provinces.
