Genoa Port Will Soon Become Greener
14 May 2012
genoaportGenoa, Northern Italy, has one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean Sea, covering an area of 700 ha on land and 500 ha in the sea.
The Piano Energetico Ambientale Portuale (PEAP) of Genoa Port, presented at the end of 2010, is a plan set up with the aim of planning and promoting the use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in the port.

Works have now started for wharfs electrification and for supplying the port with energy produced by solar, photovoltaic and wind plants. In particular the plan provides for the creation of 39 wind towers on the breakwater, 29 photovoltaic plants with a total 5.600 Kw power and 3 thermal solar plants on the roofs of the port buildings.
Investments of 60 million Euros are expected to result in nearly 20.000 tons of CO2 emissions reduction each year, divided as follows: 10.000 tons from wharfs electrification, 6.000 from the wind plant, 3600 from the photovoltaic plants and 100 from the thermal plant.

Given its innovative approach, the PEAP has been recognised as an official partner of the EU Campaign for Sustainable Energy.

Please find more information in the official website of Genoa port.
