Italy’s Biggest Photovoltaic Rooftop Installation
26 October 2011

interporto_padovaA record-breaking photovoltaic rooftop installation has been inaugurated in Padua, Italy.
It is the largest in Italy (12.3 million W) and is situated on the roof tops of 18 buildings and 7 car park shelters of the logistics firm Interporto di Padova.

A total of 250,000 square meters have been covered by 49,000 polycrystalline silicon modules, produced by an important leading manufacturer of PV modules (Solon S.p.A.), and 7,500 amorphous silicon modules (Unisolar PVL).
The energy produced by the plant is fed into the power grid and supplies electrical energy to roughly 4,000 households.

The Interporto installation is a perfect example of sustainable environmental and industrial development: it uses a surface that otherwise would be left unexploited and it is composed by '0 kilometer' modules. This important installation avoids the release of 8,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
