Non-CO2 GHGs Reduction to Slow Global Warming
14 September 2011
non_co2Global warming can be mainly attributed to CO2 emitted into the atmosphere during fossil fuel combustion. However, there are other gases which substantially contribute to the greenhouse gas effect.

According to a new research by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) published online in Nature, cutting the emission of these other non-CO2 gases could help to reduce the negative effects on the climate and slow down the increase in temperature expected in the future.
Unlike CO2, which remains in the atmosphere for centuries after emission, other gases have shorter lifetimes, so cutting their emission could bring about a more immediate benefit.
Scientists add that of course, acting only on non-CO2 greenhouse gases would not be enough to counteract global warming and decided actions to cut CO2 are also required.
