District Heating, Torino Leads Italy |
22 December 2011 |
District heating is a system used for distributing heat generated in a centralized location for residential and commercial heating requirements. This kind of heat distribution is a valid tool used to decrease air pollution, thanks to the substitution of a large number of obsolete oil and fuel boilers with new power plants that can provide higher energy efficiency and better pollution control than localized boilers. The city of Turin has now the biggest district heating system in Italy, which is able to heat 54 million square meters of buildings corresponding to a population of 560.000 inhabitants.
