New Life for Old Labels
26 October 2012
rotoprintSubstantial sustainability improvements can sometimes be achieved even in the more unexpected sectors, such as label printing on packaging.

Usually when a product is modified, even slightly, its packaging and labels become obsolete and have to be discarded. A change in the packaging is often necessary when an ingredient is changed, when the name of the product or the company is modified, or to add advertising messages on the label. In several years of activity the Italian company Rotoprint Sovrastampa has developed and perfected a system to overprint labels on nearly every type of pliant packaging materials, thus allowing the reuse of "old" labels and containers.

Many important Italian and foreign companies have been using this service for years to renew the labels on their products, thus avoiding wasting resources and money. Every year 18.000 km of packaging materials have been reused thanks to this technology, which has received important awards worldwide. Among them, the Innovation Award 2011, by the European Rotogravure Association, and the Golden Cylinder Award by GAA, Gravure Association of America.
