The Italian Meteorological Society (SMI) actively researches in the field of climate change and its effects in the alpine ecosystems, focusing on the impact on glaciers and its consequences, and the new risks for the mountain inhabitants in particular.

Institution Profile:
The Italian Meteorological Society (SMI) is a scientific non-profit organisation which was founded in Turin on September the 3rd, 1880. It closed during the Second World War and was reopened in the year 2000. The mission of the organisation is to promote the study of meteorology and all related sciences, and to communicate the importance and utility of these studies to the whole Italian population.
