SITE VISIT OBJECTIVES
The site visit objective is to present an effective example of integrated waste management.
The VESTA Integrated treatment plant is located in Fusina, an industrial area between Venice and Mestre, but far enough from residential areas it is well connected with the main roads and provided with a pier to dock the boats coming from Venice. The integrated center includes a thermodestruction plant, a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) production plant, a composting facility for wet fraction from differentiated waste collection, sludge treatment and sewage depuration.
The management environmental system is certified ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:96 for the planning and management of waste collection. Also the management of the cemeteries and of the water supply system is certified ISO 9001:2000.

INSTITUTION PROFILE
VESTA is the limited company of Venice Municipality that manages environmental services in Venice and in some other municipalities of the mainland, with a population served of 320.000 peoples.
The Company was created on December 5, 2001, by merger of the 2 public companies of the Venice Administration that separately managed the environmental service and the hydro integrated service.
The activities carried out are in the field of water supply and of urban services: drinkable water supply, urban and industrial wastewater treatment, waste collection and treatment, management of green areas and cemeteries.
