SITE VISIT OBJECTIVES
VEGA, the Venice Science and Technology Park offers a good example of how a reclamation site could be an opportunity for the economical and environmental sustainable re-development of an industrial area.
VEGA is, among the other things, the headquarter of the Hydrogen Park, an institution aiming at developing the use of hydrogen. Some of the firms in this area, in fact, produce 6.000t/y, which is 40% of the total Italian production. The aim is to use it for public transport and for electric energy production, in cooperation with ENEL.

COMPANY PROFILE
VEGA is located in Marghera (the industrial area of Venice), in the mainland facing Venice, from where the airport and the major motorways are easily accessible. It has been developed on four neighbouring areas (total area 35.1 ha), with a total investment of 53.4 M€, partially co-funded by the EU (29.6 M€) and the Italian government (1 M€).
VEGA - Parco Scientifico Tecnologico di Venezia S.c.a.r.l. - is a Limited company run as a consortium and a non-profit organisation. It was founded in 1993 by 34 partner organisations, including the two Universities of Venice, two banks and numerous important private companies.
The fully paid-up corporate capital totals about € 12,411,876.00.
VEGA is the location for numerous firms that have set up offices there, at the gateway of such a unique city. VEGA also identifies, promotes and carries out projects that aim at bringing improvement and innovation to productive cycles, quality and range of products. VEGA has set up a network of laboratories, known as VEGALAB Network that links the most important advanced specialized research organizations based in the Venice area and operating in the fields of materials, restoration and environment.
